9 Kitchen Remodeling Trends for 2024

Open Concept Kitchen

An increasing number of homeowners are choosing to create a more open feel in their kitchens. According to the report, 64 percent of renovating homeowners are opting for completely open-concept kitchens, with no walls separating the kitchen from adjacent rooms. The primary reasons cited for creating an open-concept space are improving functionality (64 percent) and enhancing entertainment capabilities (54 percent).


Substantial Structural Work


In addition to style updates, many kitchen renovations involve significant structural work. Among homeowners undergoing renovations, 45 percent are altering the kitchen layout, while 43 percent are upgrading essential systems. These structural changes often include adjusting ceiling heights and reconfiguring flooring.


High-Tech Appliances

Homeowners are increasingly choosing appliances with advanced technological features, according to the report. Approximately 30 percent of renovating homeowners select appliances with Wi-Fi connectivity, while 29 percent prefer models that can be controlled via smartphone or tablet. Additionally, a majority of homeowners (54 percent) choose to replace all appliances during a renovation, rather than just a few.


Accommodating for Age

Among homeowners renovating their kitchens to address special needs, the most common reason is to accommodate the needs of aging household members. Popular adjustments for age-related considerations include pullout cabinets (58 percent), extra lighting (54 percent), wide drawer pulls (48 percent), nonslip flooring (37 percent), and rounded countertops (34 percent).


Backsplash Renovations

The report notes that an increasing number of homeowners are choosing to replace their kitchen backsplash during renovations, with a 2-point increase since last year. Currently, the most popular backsplash material is ceramic or porcelain tile (54 percent), followed by engineered quartz (11 percent). Additionally, homeowners are also selecting natural stone options like marble (9 percent), quartzite (6 percent), and granite (4 percent).


Larger Islands

Having a bigger kitchen island provides additional room for cooking and hosting gatherings with loved ones, which is why numerous homeowners are choosing to expand their islands. As per the report, 42 percent of homeowners undergoing renovations are opting for kitchen islands that measure 7 feet or more in length.


A Pop of Cabinetry Color

Anticipate a surge in colorful kitchen designs this year, particularly in the realm of cabinetry. Despite white remaining a popular choice, the popularity of wood and green cabinets is on the upswing. Wood finishes are predominantly favored for lower cabinets, with blue also ranking high as a preferred option for island cabinetry.


More Storage Solutions

Home owners are increasing desiring for more functional kitchens, leading to a growing emphasis on organization. Items like cookie sheet organizers (55%), spice racks (44%), and cutlery and utensil organizers (41% and 37% respectively) are gaining popularity.


Recessed Lighting

Lighting plays a crucial role in creating the ambiance of your kitchen. Among homeowners undergoing renovations, recessed lighting remains the top preference for renovated kitchens, chosen by 75%of them. Additionally, under cabinet lights are a popular choice at 69%, with pendant lights being favored by over half of homeowners at 56%
